Akim Oda, July 20, GNA - Mr Yaw Amprofi, Birim South District Chief Executive (DCE), has denied media reports that he has exploited his office to put up a mansion at Akim Oda.

He said although he owns a "small house" in the town, he started the project long before he was appointed as DCE.

Mr Amprofi was reacting to a series of allegations, at a news conference at Akim Oda on Tuesday.

He said the house was financed through a loan he obtained from the Barclays Bank.

Mr Amprofi also denied that he owns a luxury BMW saloon car and explained that, the only car he posses is a Mazda car he bought from one Mr Larry Kwaku Attafuah, who is currently a Special Assistant to the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports before his appointment.

The DCE said he was not "a pauper" before his appointment, adding, "For 25 years, I had worked at various places including Nigeria, the Ghana Water Company Limited... Agona Swedru School of Business and the Oda Secondary School".

Mr Amprofi said he was not involved in illegal award of contracts as alleged, stressing that, the District Tender Board carry out such statutory duty either through open tender or selective tender. "Even after contracts have been awarded by the Tender Board, it would still have to be put before the Executive Committee of the District Assembly."

Mr Amprofi also refuted allegations that he owns an abattoir or having an amorous affair with a married woman.

He advised journalists to ensure that they crosscheck their facts to avoid libel suits being filed against them.
