Tepa (Ash), June 21, GNA- The Right Reverend Kwame Omane Achamfour, the Methodist Bishop of Sunyani, at the weekend decried the high cost of marriages and said this was scaring the youth away from marriage. He also said elaborate and expensive marriage creates a lot of economic hardships for some married couples resulting in economic hardships and the eventual break up of such unions.
Bishop Achamfour made these observations at the opening of the four-day eighth biennial conference of the Tepa Diocesan Guild at Tepa in the Ahafo-Ano North district of Ashanti at the weekend. He appealed to parents to reduce bride price and cautioned that daughters might not get husbands if the situation is not changed.
Bishop Achamfour who was speaking on the topic, "Send Me and I Will Go", asked Christians to be faithful and spread the gospel in order to win more souls for Christ. Mr Akwasi Adu Poku, the Ahafo-Ano North acting District Chief Executive, called on the youth to be disciplined and asked Church organisations such as the Guild to help curb indiscipline among the youth.
The Very Rev John W. Baiden, Superintendent Minister of the Tepa circuit, asked members of the Guild to intensify the propagation of the good news to win more members for the Church. Miss Patience Ameyaw Sam, President of the Diocesan Guild, urged the youth to be wary of the danger posed by HIV/AIDS. and cautioned women against indecent dressing. 21 June 05
