Bishop rebukes Christians who join strike actions

Obuasi (Ash), Oct. 17, GNA - The Bishop of the Kumasi Diocese of the Anglican Church, the Rt Reverend Daniel Yinkah Sarfo, on Sunday rebuked public and civil servants who are Christians but join national strike actions to bring pain and suffering to people.

He said though he expected the government to review salaries of all workers and not on sector basis, government workers should allow their Christian ethics to guide them in their actions.

Bishop Sarfo, who was preaching at a special thanksgiving service to mark the 10th anniversary of the All Saints Anglican Church at Obuasi-Anyinam, specifically mentioned Christian doctors and nurses, who joined strike actions leading to deaths.

"Why should nurses and doctors leave a whole ward for the sake of money to allow people to perish."

The Anglican Bishop said Christians had to influence the world and not the world influencing them, stressing that, "we should be guided by our Christian principles".

The Rt Rev. Sarfo said Christians should not compromise their faith, adding that, "we must dare to be different in the society". He condemned the copying of unacceptable foreign cultures, especially indecent dressing by young Christians and said it was time the youth appreciated the good values embedded in the country's rich culture.

A fund-raising in aid of the church building yielded 26 million cedis.
