Black Stars Win, Amsterdam goes crazy

Celebrations from Black Stars? historic win over fancied Czech Republic, 2-0, in Cologne, Germany, in their second World Cup match at the groups stage, have yet to die down. But on the fateful 17 June, this year, Amsterdam South-east boiled like a hot spring from a smothering volcanic eruption.

The entire district was washed in the national colours of Ghana, amid fun-fare, pomp and pageantry. In the Bijlmer, a suburb in the Southeast district, home to over 5,000 Ghanaians, it was big picnic short of a carnival by just centimeters. Peoples from all walks of life: indigenous Dutch, other Africans and those of the diaspora all joined in to celebrate the victory.

Through the courtesy of Sikaman Foundation, the event was telecast live on a provincial Amsterdam Television network (AT5) while far away in Cologne, combined team of Akasanoma Radio and Okyeame online magazine (both under the communication department of the Foundation) reporters, brings you this photo report:
