Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah is confident he will achieve the targets set for him by the Ghana Football Association despite a difficult start to second his spell with the team.

Coach Kwasi Appiah was appointed by the erstwhile GFA administration in May 2017 with a mandate to ‘do everything possible’ to qualify Ghana to the 2018 World Cup and also win the 2019 AFCON which will be played in Cameroon.

Kwasi Appiah failed to achieve his first objective which was to lead the Stars to the 2018 World Cup but that did not attract public uproar because Ghana’s qualification campaign was already in danger before he was recruited.

Kwasi Appiah is however aware that failure to win the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations could mark the end of his second stint with the Black Stars and he is convinced that Ghana will annex the trophy from the host nation who won it in 2017.

He also explained that his personal objective is to build a team that could stand the test of time and a team that has 3 players fighting for each position.

“It’s quite difficult but in a way what I wanted to achieve I’m getting there. The positive thing is that what I was tasked to do I think I’m left with a few touches then I will achieve it. I was tasked to build the team and secondly win the AFCON. So what I mean by remaining some few touches is my vision is to have 3 players competing for each position in the team”, Kwasi Appiah told GhanaWeb.

Ghana is on course to qualify for the tournament and despite 1-0 defeat to Kenya, Kwesi Appiah is adamant Ghana will secure qualify with a game to spare.

I’m very confident we will qualify. In fact we will qualify. We may even do it with some games to spare. It will be easy, and I’m very confident. Ghana faces a doubleheader against Sierra Leone when the qualifying process resumes in October.
