The Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service has uncovered a syndicate of young ladies, who entice public officials and foreigners into relationships and turn round later to blackmail them. The young ladies, aged between 18 and 30, are said to be university students and graduates.
A Senior Crime Officer told the Ghana News Agency that the ladies often threaten their victims with exposure in the media if they do not accede to their demands for mobile phone, vehicles or holiday trips abroad.
A CID officer is quoted as saying that four suspected are being investigated while one Linda Kwapong, who attempted to defraud a foreigner has failed to report to the Police since an investigator was assigned to delve into the report she made. The Officer said in one instance one of the suspects presented a bill for 50 million cedis for furniture, while another demanded 10 million cedis for rent advance.
