Tension is brewing in Charia, a farming community in the Upper West Region as two factions are up in arms against each other over a parcel of land.
The two factions are the Kunkariyiri people otherwise known as (Jakyeri or Gao) and Gongomuni people.
As the people of Jakyeri are leaving no stone unturned to forcefully take possession of the said land, the Gongomuni people are also determined that they will no longer tolerate or allow any further encroachment into the said land and that the Jakyeri people should stay within the boundary demarcation.
This, as a result, is thus culminating into serious tension in the community.
Reports have it that there was a brawl a fortnight ago which resulted in the destruction of properties and near loss of lives but for the narrow escape of their targets.
It has become disturbingly necessary that the Regional and District Security Councils urgently take immediate steps to get to the area to avert any further bloody clashes.
Painstaking investigations indicates that the said parcel of land which serves as a boundary between the two factions have been clearly demarcated and rightfully belongs to the people of Gongomuni.
The tension began when the Jakyeri people started encroaching on the land prompting the Gongomuni people to resist. The situation as it is now is such that, if urgent action is not taken, there could be an explosion of violence in the community with catastrophic, disastrous and damaging effects.
Behind the disturbance are very able young men aided by a few old men who are believed to be engineering the looming bloodshed in the hitherto peaceful and serene Charia Community.
The names are only given as (Buutory Naa) Known as Dangoli, Dumba Bazaara, Godwin Bazaara Konzie, Ali Kanyarigbani, Ali Yakubu (Yidaana) and one (Konbe Naa) Peter Sumabe. These people allege that they have their support from some politically influential persons.
It is advised and would be appreciated that the Security Agencies commence their investigations for a speedy resolution of the impasse.
Even though the case has reached various quarters within the Region and solutions are being sought, the Kunkariyiri people have resorted to disregard all the peaceful channels of redress and are taking the law into their own hands.
This is evidenced by their recent act of vandalism by burning down gardens and attempting to locate their targeted persons for what only God Knows. This is a clear recipe for total chaos.
Prominent members of the community and opinion leaders are at their wit's end and are desperately in need of a solution to the problem.
They are unanimous in their quest for a lasting solution to the impasse for justice, peace and love to prevail for development.
It is even noted that it was brotherly love and care that brought these two communities closer to share boundary until these happenings.
