Former head coach for the Egyptian national team, Bob Bradley has taken full responsibility for the team's 6-1 thrashing at the hands of Ghana in 2013 in the run-up to the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The renowned American trainer was appointed as the head of the technical team of the Pharaohs in 2011 as he took charge of a team going through difficulties.

Nonetheless, he managed to build a very good team and performed well in the qualifiers to the 2014 FIFA World Cup tournament.

At the final stage of the qualifiers, Bob Bradley’s Egyptian side was paired with the Ghana national team. At the end of the first leg, the Black Stars emerged as 6-1 winners, totally outplaying the opponent on home soil.

Looking back to that match in an interview with Sada El-Balad TV channel, Coach Bob Bradley has taken full responsibility for the loss.

He narrated, “I was really sad after the Kumasi game, everyone was very committed to send Egypt to the World Cup but there was too much pressure and the responsibility was huge.

“The Brazilian players weren’t their usual selves on that day, which reminded me of what happened in Kumasi”.

The 62-year-old coach added, “Hossam Ashour got injured at the start of the game, we then got a penalty which the Ghana player should’ve gotten sent off for. Then Sherif Ekramy got injured and replaced by Ahmed El-Shennawy, but despite these obstacles the players did the best they could.

“At the time the league was suspended and the players were under a lot of pressure, but I take full responsibility. I tried to prepare the players mentally before the game but I was unable to do so”.

Even though Egypt won the return leg of the match 2-1, it was not enough as they failed to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
