Bole (NR), July 23, GNA - The Bole District Assembly on Wednesday inaugurated 11 Girl Child Rights Clubs to promote girls' education in the area.

Mr Sam Akati Mahama, the District Chief Executive (DCE), who inaugurated the clubs, said the assembly would collaborate with the various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the area to ensure the implementation of the Children's Act 560 of 1998, which enjoins the Assemblies to promote and support the activities aimed at enhancing the welfare children.

Mr Mahama said with the formation of clubs, the district would commit part of its 2003 share of the Common Fund to the sustenance and promotion of child rights activities.

The DCE advised parents to send their children, especially the girls to school adding "you must invest in your children's education rather than giving them out for early marriages".

Mr Mahama said Save the Child UK, a British NGO operating in the Northern Region, had entered into an agreement with the assembly to assist in the promotion of girl child education.

He emphasized that other child rights clubs as well as panels would be established in the various schools to ensure the promotion of child rights.

Mr Gabriel Avuyem, the District Child Rights Protection Officer, advised parents to give equal attention to the education of both boys and girls.
