Accra, April 6, GNA - A bomb threat on Monday from a disappointed visa applicant to the Italian Embassy sent dozens of personnel from the Intelligence Unit of Ghana Police Service to the Embassy at Cantonments in Accra to ensure security.
Although the threat happened to be am empty one, it did not stop the police from patrolling the embassy.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Monday, Nana Akrasi Sarpong, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of the Interior, said information from the Deputy Regional Commander of Police, ACP Bright Oduro confirmed the rumour of a bomb threat.
He explained that a disappointed visa applicant threatened to bomb the embassy, but a phone call from the embassy tipped off officials of the National Security who immediately called in the police. Nana Sarpong noted that the Police had not found any bomb yet, "and the police say they are ready to deal with anyone who may try planting or going there with one".
He said the security of the people cannot be compromised therefore the police would not hesitate to deal with anybody caught to be messing up with the peace and security of the State. The embassy has been temporarily closed to the public.
