Borstal's new name is Senior Correctional Centre

Accra, Dec. 13, GNA - The Ghana Borstal Institution in Accra is to be known as Senior Correctional Centre, a statement from the Ghana Prisons Service said on Wednesday.

The statement signed by Mr I. K. Tsegah, Director of Prisons in charge of Administration, said the change was in compliance with the provision of the Juvenile Justice Act 653, particularly section 39(2). The statement said the Act defines the Senior Correctional Centre as "a place where young offenders and such juvenile offenders as the court may determine, may be detained.

"In view of the above, there has been a shift in focus and orientation of the Institute to meet changing needs of society."
