Asiwa (Ash.) April 26, GNA- The 16 member assembly of the newly created Bosome Freho district of Ashanti on Friday, voted against Mr Gabriel Yaw Amoah, the President's nominee to head the district. Mr Amoah, a legal Practitioner and a Member of Parliament (MP) for the area from 1997- 2004, who needed two-thirds of the votes, which is 11, to secure the position, polled 10 out of the 16 votes cast in the election held at Asiwa, the district capital and conducted and supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC).

"Because he had 10 votes representing more than 50 per cent of the total votes, Mr Amoah has another chance for his confirmation by the same assembly members within 10 days", Mr Gabriel Manu, the District Electoral Officer, who declared the results announced. "And if he is unable to obtain the required number, then the President would have no option than to nominate another person", he said.

After the declaration of the results, many of the people around were visibly disappointment as some sat still and glued to their seats, while others started pointing accusing fingers and speculations as to the cause of Mr Amoah's inability to win the election and this nearly resulted into confusion.

Speaking to the members later, Mr Osei Assibey Antwi, Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister said, he was unhappy of the outcome of the election because the President's nominee had been with the Assembly for many years and knew the needs of the people.

He said Mr Amoah has experience and knowledge in local government administration and the decentralization process, which he could share with them to facilitate the rapid development of the district, carved from the Amansie East district, which has now been raised to a Municipality.

Mr Amoah earlier before the elections told the assembly members that the position was a challenge to him in ensuring its proper development stressing that, he would consult and collaborate with them at all levels to uplift the image of the district.
