Kuntanase (Ash), July 9, GNA- Mr Mathew Adarkwa, the newly elected Ghana Cocoa, Coffee and Sheanut Farmers Association (GCCSFA) chief farmer for the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma district, has expressed concern about lack of a district cocoa office in the area

He said even though the district ranked among the best cocoa producing districts in the country it lacked a cocoa office to co-ordinate activities of farmers and to know the exact tonnage of cocoa produced in the district.

Speaking after his election as Chief Farmer for the district at Kuntanase on Thursday, Mr Adarkwa said due to the lack of a district cocoa office, the farmers conveyed their produce to Bekwai, Ejisu and Konongo districts thereby giving the farmers extra burden. He therefore urged the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) to open a district cocoa office at Kuntanase.

He said the mass cocoa spraying exercise and the introduction of the 'hi-tech' fertiliser for cocoa was yielding very positive results in the district as production had tripled.

Mr Gbamara Edward Dery, the District Director of Agriculture, called on farmers to work closely with agricultural extension officers to enable them receive technical advice to increase production.
