A 7-year-old boy is currently traumatised following brutalities meted out to him by his teacher.
The teacher, Ms Marian Turkson of Mary Mother of God Counsel School, a Catholic school at Airport West residential area, used masking tape to seal the mouth of the child.
In addition, she also used the masking tape to tie the child to a chair.
When confronted, Ms Turkson said she took the action to restrain the 7-year-old boy from roaming and playing in class.
A class 3 teacher, Mr Amponsah, who was identified as a close pal of Ms Turkson, also allegedly caned the little boy mercilessly without any provocation, a situation that left marks on the neck of the boy.
Unknown to Ms Turkson, at the time she was taping the child, the father of the boy was in the school and chanced upon the incident.
The father of the child, name withheld, told The Finder that he was dumbfounded and could not utter a word as a result of shock.
The mother of the victim, on the other hand, could not hide her frustrations and confronted the school administration over the issue.
She was appalled that the management of the school was not taking her complaints seriously and so she had to report to a much higher authority.
She explained that it took the intervention of a senior Catholic priest on two occasions before the board met to decide what would be the fate of the female teacher.
The father of the little boy could not confront the teachers because his son was still at the school and he anticipated something terrible could happen to his boy, especially as he is asthmatic.
Following the action of the mother, the boy was not given homework and was not also encouraged to participate in class.
The principal's explanation for this was that because the teacher had gotten into trouble because of the boy, it would take time for her to treat him impartially again.
The father’s concern grew when the son and his little sister, including friends of theirs, went home every day with complaints of what their teacher had done and said to them.
“It got to a point when school was mentioned to the child, he felt so reluctant as he was traumatised about the ordeal,” the parents said, adding that Reverend Father Amissah, the Local Manager for the Catholic Schools, could attest to the fact.
After a few rude expressions from the teacher at the centre of the scandal and a few others from the headmistress, the duo had to withdraw their two children from the school to another school, causing them so much since admissions in all schools had ended.
They expressed their disappointment about the approach the school board took in respect of the issue, and could not come to terms with the fact that Ms Turkson's behaviour as a professional and custodian of innocent children had worsened rather than improved.
Phone calls placed to Reverend Father Amissah, Local Manager of Catholic Schools, went unanswered.
