'Boy with wrong gender but good grades' gets ‘Tullow Ashesi Engineering Scholarship’

The brilliant but needy Senior High School graduate who was awarded a scholarship by the Ashesi University to study in the institution has been given another scholarship by Tullow Ghana Limited.

Kolah Tubare became famous after his touching story which was discovered by Joy News’ Manasseh Azure Awuni gained media attention.

The former student of Nandom Senior High School, performed incredibly in the WASSCE scoring A1 in six subjects; Biology, Elective Mathematics, and Physics and B2 in Chemistry despite the financial challenges he faced.

He had to abandon school due to several family issues, particularly financial constraints but after his story was made public so many people were willing to support Tubare to further his education in tertiary level including the Ashesi University scholarship which he settled for.

Recent among the numerous offers that came running after Kolah Tubare is the ‘Tullow Ashesi Engineering Scholarship’.

As part of Tullow’s strategic plans to develop Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education in Ghana, the company has set up a scholarship scheme to support brilliant but needy Engineering students to encourage other students to develop an interest in STEM.

Among the first five beneficiaries is Electrical Engineering student, Kolah Tubare who is already enjoying a full scholarship from Ashesi worth $50,000.

The ‘Tullow Ashesi Engineering Scholarship’ covers the cost of tuition, accommodation, feeding, and health insurance, among others for the recipients throughout their course.



In an interview with Ghanaweb after the launch of the scheme, Kolah Tubare expressed his excitement and thanked the initiators for the gesture.

He believes his hard work in Senior High School has paid off and hopes to make use of the various opportunities at Ashesi to achieve his dreams of becoming a great Electrical Engineer.
