Brawl at Kasoa overhead over enforcement of social distancing directive

It seems some Ghanaians are yet to understand that the directive on social distancing still stands even though the restriction on movement has been lifted.

In an attempt to get people to abide by the directive, the Deputy Operations Commander of the Kasoa municipal taskforce sustained a minor head injury Monday morning.

In a conversation with GhanaWeb, the man popularly known as 2cedis in the area revealed that he had gone round with other members of the taskforce to ensure people were observing the social distance directive after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said people can return to their daily activities.

On getting into the main Kasoa township, the taskforce noticed that the directive wasn’t being followed and tried getting traders to space out.

“While we were still speaking to the traders when some okada riders came around. Some of the riders threatened to beat us and I approached them to explain things to them but while I was speaking, one of them hit me with a blow and when I turned to find out who it was, another person bit me resulting in an injury on my head,” he narrated to GhanaWeb off camera.

2cedis wouldn’t let this go and engaged the person who bit his head in a brawl.

Like many Ghanaians, some people found this sight amusing and looked on as the two men fought. A few traders and okada riders, however, intervened and separated the two before either of them could sustain a serious injury.

Kasoa is part of areas that until Monday, 20th April 2020, had been observing a three-week lockdown to curb the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.



Announcing an end to the lockdown on Sunday, April 19, the president said the decision was influenced by several factors including Ghana’s ability to undertake aggressive contact tracing, an enhanced capacity to test, expansion of the number of treatment and isolation centres as well as the impact of the virus on the poor and vulnerable in the affected areas.

The president further urges citizens to observe all the safety precautions but so far majority of persons in town are yet to do this.
