Delegates of the ruling NPP in the Asikuma Odobeng Brakwa constituency in the Central Region have openly declared their support for one of the six aspirants.

The delegates seem to have bought into the idea of Mr Bright Essilfie Kumi who is seen as a unifier and have, therefore, thrown their weight behind him.

This position has become the talk of the constituency as the aspirants are gearing up for a showdown and have already started filing their filled documents.

Mr Essilfie-Kumi formally filed his filled documents at the constituency office on Friday.

Constituency Chairman, Mr Bruce Doomson appealed to the followers of Mr Essilfie-Kumi to emulate the humility and respectful attitude of the aspirants to ensure peaceful electioneering campaign.

Some of the delegates alleged that there has been a long standing dispute between the incumbent MP and another contender, Mr Adjie Doomson.

Following this, they alleged that the party needed a unifier who would be accepted by the rank and file of the party as well as the grass root base.

“Here, everybody knows that there is bad blood between the supporters of Effah and Doomson which means that none of them can be trusted to lead us”. A delegate alleged.

Another posited; “Even when the wind of change was all over in the last election, Mr Effah was nearly defeated by NDC’s Alhaji Ghansah so we don’t have to risk again”.

During the 2016 general elections, the vote margin between the presidential candidates of the NDC and the NPP was 5,700 in favour of the NPP.

However, the vote margin between the NDC’s Alhaji Ghansah and the NPP’s Anthony Effah was 420 in favour of the NPP.

From the above, it is obvious that there was “skirt and blouse” voting in the constituency, a situation that has been attributed to an alleged feud between supporters of the Mr Anthony Effah and Mr Adjei Doomson.

This, according to the delegates who support Mr Essilfie-Kumi, calls for someone who would be able to bridge the existing differences that nearly caused them the seat.

In view of this, Mr Bright Essilfie-Kumi, is said to be the most ideal person who can lead the party to a resounding victory come December 7.

Mr Essilfie-Kumi is a member of the national communication team o the ruling government who also contested the party’s national youth organiser’s position at the last congress of the party but later stepped down.

Speaking to the media after filing his documents, he said, “I am a grass root man and I understand the needs of the people at the grass root. A win for me at the primaries will represent a total victory for the party”.

He promised to use his international lobbying skills acquired over the years to lure international investors into the constituency would create employment opportunities to transform the lives of the people.

He is also the founder, president and the financier a volunteer group called “Movement for Change,” who, vigorously embarked on house to house campaign to mobilise the party’s grass root base across the country.

Strategically, the volunteers ensured that there was massive voter turn at every polling centre, a strategy that he believed culminated to the massive voter turnout and votes for the NPP that won them victory.

He has over 18 years of working experience with various international organisations which has given him a lot of international exposure.
