Taabosom, (C/R) Aug 19, GNA - The Member of Parliament for Mfantseman West, Mr. Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, has called on chiefs to bring Members of Parliament and government appointees to order any time they got off track.

"It is your vote and that of your people that have placed us where we are now, so you must guide us to do what you expect of us," the MP said.

"An adage in Akan, which literally means a person who is charting a path does not know that it is getting crooked unless another person tells him is very apt," he quoted, and added that, " if you do not call us to order, we way not know that we are off track."

Mr. Quansah made the call at the Eguadofo festival of the people of Taabosom in the Mfantseman Municipal of the Central Region. He said votes are important instrument for development and those who exercise them must ensure that they yielded some results.

That is the reason why you must not vote for people who will only go and seek their own interest and when the time comes for their mandate to be renew would be going round with money they have accrued to entice the electorate, he stressed.

The MP urged the youth to regard festivals as periods for stock taking and planning for development of communities. "It is not the time to go back home to show off and embark on drinking sprees and immoral practices," he cautioned.

Mr. Henry Kweku Hayfron, Municipal Chief Executive, advised parents and spouses to know the kind of work their children and partners were engaged in to prevent them from engaging in illicit deals, including armed robbery and cyber crimes. They must also know the sources of the property they bring home, he said.

Mr. Hayfron, on behalf of the assembly, donated 100 bags of cement to the community for the completion of a school project. Ms. Vivian Etroo, Municipal Director of Education, urged parents to invest in the education of their children for their progress. She pointed out that the best legacy to be bequeathed to their children was education.

She advised parents not to see the school feeding programme and the Capitation Grant as means to shirk their responsibilities of caring for their children.

Ms. Etroo exhorted parents to restrain their children from spending all their time on television programmes at expense of their studies. Nana Ofori Gyampi VIII, the Chief of Daabosom, called on the government to reshape the roads in the area which were in deplorable conditions to facilitate the movement of farm produce and people. Roads hold the key to the economy, the chief stated.

He commended the director of Education for her efforts to ensure the delivery of quality education in the area. 19 Aug. 09
