Britain donates computers to GIS

The British High Commission yesterday presented a number of equipment for detecting falsified and counterfeit documents and stamps worth ?80 million to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) at a short ceremony held at the GIS headquarters in Accra.

The equipment, which is meant to be used at the four main borders in the country, comprises four portable document examination systems, two checkpoint document examination systems, 10 UV portable lamps, 10 hand-held microscopes and four desktop magnifier units.

Mr. Ian Mackley, the outgoing British High Commissioner presenting the equipment, said the donation of the equipment underlines his government's commitment to assist the GIS to fight against the use false documents.

Mr. W. K. Aboah, Director of the GIS, said the equipment and the new arrival and departure stamps will enhance its outfit operational functions.
