British Council Accra Library To Close Down

The British Council library in Accra will be closed from Wednesday 22nd January 2003 to April 2003 to undergo major refurbishment work.

A press release from the British Council said the building is to be transformed our entire into a state-of-the-art Knowledge and Learning Centre.

"This innovative new centre forms part of an interactive global network, which will provide users with easily accessible up-to-date information and learning resources from around the world. The Knowledge and Learning Centre (KLC) will provide both physical and virtual services in a modern setting in line with the increasing information demands of the 21st century."

The release said members will be given an additional three months 'free' subscription beyond the expiry of the current subscription to make up for the closure period.

Materials borrowed between 6-11 January are to be returned by 22 January 2003 to enable the British Council to receive additional materials and process them to ensure that they have new, up to date materials when they re-open.

The British Council connects people world wide with learning opportunities and ideas from the United Kingdom and builds lasting relationships between the UK and other countries. With offices and libraries in Accra and Kumasi, they have maintained a continuous presence in Ghana since 1943. 2003 marks the 60th anniversary of the British Council in Ghana.
