British Royal Princess calls on President Mills

Accra, Oct. 27, GNA -President John Atta Mills on Thursday assured Britain that Ghana was prepared to partner her to explore more opportunities for development.

The President gave thumbs up to the continuous improvement in the special ties between the two nations, expressing the hope that their cooperation would be further strengthened for mutual benefits.

=E2=80=9CWe appreciate your interest in the growth of our nation,=E2=80= =9D the President told Princess Anne, 61, the only daughter of Queen Elizabeth, when she paid a courtesy call on him at the Osu Castle in Accra.

Princess Anne is visiting Ghana as part of a two-nation visit to West Africa, and had arrived in Accra from Freetown, Sierra Leone.

President Mills thanked Britain for the continuous development assistance offered to Ghana, noting that Ghana was fully committed to the relationship with her former colonial master.

The President lauded the objectives of her visit and commended her for her special interest in supporting underprivileged children in commonwealth nations.

For her part, the Princess conveyed the commitment of Britain=E2=80=99s royal family to promote the interest of Ghana in the Commonwealth, Leone, and said Ghana was highly admired by the royal family.

Moreover, she said, her visit was to create the platform to explore new areas of growth for Ghanaian and British businesses.

The visit of the Princess is the most high-profile visit to Ghana from the UK this year, and it is the third visit by a member of the Royal family in the last 5 years, reflecting the continued interest among members of Britain=E2=80=99s Royal family in Ghana.

As part of the visit, Princess Anne would lay a wreath at the Christiansbourg Military cemetery, inspects charity projects being undertaken by her associate NGO=E2=80=99s such as Opportunity International and VSO, as well as grace school events by the British Council.

She would also visit the Tullow Oil and tour the nation=E2=80=99s oil processing facility, FPSO Kwame Nkrumah in the Western Region, after which she would visit the Ghana Navy Training School.

The Princess is known for her charitable work, being the patron of over 200 organisations, and she carries out about 700 royal engagements and public appearances per year.
