British ship visits Ghana

Accra, Nov. 28, GNA- The British Naval Ship, HMS Glasgow, will visit the port of Takoradi from November 2 to 6.

HMS Glasgow is part of the Royal Navy's South Atlantic patrol force providing a tangible UK maritime presence in the South Atlantic as well as providing a presence in West Africa in support of UN and UK interests.

This will be her 2nd trip to Ghana in recent years.

According a statement the British High Commission issued in Accra ,the purpose of the visit was to demonstrate and reinforce bilateral ties between Ghana and the United Kingdom.

Whilst in Takoradi, the Captain, Commander Michael Wainhouse, would pay a courtesy call on the Western Regional Minister, Mr Joseph Boahen Aidoo, and some chiefs.

The ship's crew will undertake some good will works at the Twin City Special School.

HMS Glasgow was launched on 14th April 1976 at Swan Hunter Shipbuilders at Wallsend and commissioned in October 1979 to become the 6th and last Batch 1 Type 42 Destroyer in the Fleet.

The name HMS Glasgow stretches back to 1707 and which eight ships have held to date.

The ship's motto is Memor Es Tourum meaning be mindful of your ancestor.
