Brong-Ahafo House of Chiefs admits 50th member

The Brong-Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs (BARHCs), has admitted Nana Narbi Santo II, the Paramount Chief of Dwan Traditional Area in the Sene West District of the newly-created Bono East Region as the 50th member.

Nana Santo II was led to swear the oath of membership by Pimampim Yaw Kagbrese V, the President of the House whilst he swore the membership oath of secrecy before Justice Patrick Baayeh, the Supervising High Court Judge of Sunyani at the House’s 2019 first general meeting on Thursday in Sunyani.

The National House of Chiefs at its 2018 end of year meeting “approved the forms” of Nana Santo II and entered it in the national register of Chiefs, following “the approval of his C.D. Forms by the BARHCs during its 2018 third general meeting”.

Pimampim Kagbrese V, who is the Paramount Chief of Yeji Traditional Area in the Pru East District of Bono East stated Nana Santo the second’s admission to the House followed “a protracted chieftaincy dispute over his nomination and selection which lasted for almost three decades”.

The ‘Yejihene’ therefore congratulated him on his persistency for ultimate victory in a long-battle fought.

He appealed to Queens and Kingmakers in the region who play crucial role in the enstoolment of a chief to always follow the due process in the nomination and selection of candidates to avoid misunderstandings that usually resulted to litigations.

“Truth and transparency should be the key”, Pimampim Kagbrese V entreated, saying that “chieftaincy litigation breaks down family cohesion, breeds violence and retards development”.

Later in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Nana Santo II, a former teacher by profession expressed commitment and determination to pursue the cause of unity for peace to promote rapid socio-economic development in his traditional area.

He pledged to collaborate with the Forestry Services Division of the Forestry Commission, the District Assembly and other stakeholders to prevent indiscriminate felling of trees and illegal charcoal burning for sustainable and best environmental practices.

Nana Santo II added the Dwan Traditional Council would court the assistance of security agencies to clamp down on the activities of Fulani herdsmen for especially farmers in the area to work in peace.
