Mr Eugene K. Henaku, Senior brother of Mr Ben Henaku, personnel of the Aviation Security (AVSEC), who was allegedly assaulted by national security personnel, has bemoaned the unprofessional conduct of some national security personnel.

He condemned the attitude of some national security personnel, which according to him portrayed them to be above the law.

Mr Henaku spoke with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on arrival at the Kotoka International Airport, Accra, to arrange for the transfer of his brother from the Airport clinic, where he is on admission, to another hospital for a more thorough medical check-up.

Mr Henaku told GNA that there was the need to transfer his brother to either the SSNIT Hospital or 37 Military Hospital since his injury could be more serious than it appeared.

Mr Henaku said: “I love my brother and he loves me too. He is very important to our family and I will stay until night if the need be, to make sure he is transferred to another hospital”.

Mr Henaku said he had observed situations where assaulted people regain their health only for their condition to deteriorate, leading to their death, and added: “I know security personnel; they know where to hit you in order to weaken you.”

Mr Henaku said at about 2300 hours, he received a phone call, about the arrest of his brother by national security personnel, and sent to the National Security Office.

He said he received other phone calls from people, including his brother’s co-workers, who confirmed the arrest, but his brother was released around 0300 hours on Wednesday.

On his brother's arrest, Mr Henaku said that available information indicated that his brother, was in-charge of security at the airport on Tuesday night when President John Evans Atta Mills arrived from the US.

He said his brother tried to enter the cordoned-off area of the airport, but he was prevented by National Security personnel, leading to an altercation, which ended in his arrest.

Personnel of AVSEC resumed work after a brief strike on Wednesday morning. The action was as a result of speculations that National Security personnel intended to storm the airport on Wednesday morning after an altercation between AVSEC and National Security personnel on Tuesday night.

AVSEC locked the domestic departure side of the airport, to protest what they termed the violent conduct of some National Security personnel.

Personnel of AVSEC was said to have been beaten up by national security personnel after President John Evans Atta Mills’ arrival from the US.

A spokesman of AVSEC told the GNA that head of AVSEC met the striking personnel and they had resumed work.**
