Buem citizens appeal to chiefs to settle differences

Accra, April 29, GNA - Delegates representing indigenes of the various towns of the Buem Constituency in the Volta Region have appealed to chiefs in the area to quickly resolve any impasse between them to aid the process of development in the area.

They urged the Paramount Chief of the area, Nana Abura Akpanja to ensure an amicable solution to any disputes between him and other chiefs, "so we can all live in peace and lift up the falling standards of education in the Buem area".

At a mini delegates' congress held on Saturday in Accra and attended by citizens of the area, Mr Isaka Buraima, Chairman of the Coalition for Peace and Development in Buem, said because of the impasse between the chiefs, development had been hindered since they could not meet to plan development programmes.

"This has become a great concern for us as citizens and we pray that the chiefs resolve their issues sooner to ensure peace as well as development in the area", Mr Buraima noted.

He said indigenes, residing both in Buem and other regions decided to come together to see how best they could help develop the area, especially in improving the falling standards of education. He indicated that the mini congress preceded a main one scheduled for August this year where citizens would gather at Baika, one of the towns in the area to deliberate further on how to explore various resources to improve the living standards of the people. Various delegates also expressed their worry over the poor performance of children in schools and stressed the need to encourage them to take their studies seriously by inculcating in them, the habit of reading.

They also expressed the need to establish searchlight libraries and stocking old ones for both students and teachers.
