The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia has poured cold water on New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters predicting victory for their Presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo in next year’s elections.
The opposition supporters have been drawing some similarities between President-elect of Nigeria, General Mahammadu Buhari and their 2016 presidential candidate.
They believe that Mr. Buhari’s victory is an indication that a similar victory can be recorded by the NPP come 2016.
But speaking to Starr News, Asiedu Nketiah, popularly known as general Mosquito said members of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition are deluding themselves with false hopes.
“They (NPP) are engaged in lotto forecasting, where they look into the skies and car numbers and predict lotto numbers.
“I do not think that their assumptions are based on any reasonable intellectual argument at all”.
Buhari, a former Nigerian army general who first won power three decades ago in a military coup, beat the incumbent and main rival Goodluck Jonathan in a historic presidential election in Nigeria.
The 72-year-old stretched Mr Jonathan by about 2 million votes, testament to the faith Nigerians have put in him as a born-again democrat intent on cleaning up Nigeria's perceived corrupt politics.
