Chairman of the Bui Power Authority, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has described claims by the Minority in Parliament that the Authority is spending $3 million on a golf park and a recreational centre for staff as mischievous.
According to him, such a “laughable” assertion is part of a grand scheme by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to divert attention from its internal wrangling.
The Minority at a press conference in Accra on Thursday, questioned the rationale behind spending such huge amount when majority of Ghanaians sleep in darkness.
But speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme on Friday, Asiedu Nketia said the Authority has no such plan of building a golf park.
He indicated that though a golf park and a recreational centre are part of the original plan of the Bui City project, it will be under a Public Private Partnership in future.
General Mosquito as he is popularly called, could not fathom why the NPP is bent on using Bui Dam Authority as a decoy to cover up its internal squabbles.
Asiedu Nketia, who is also the General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), said “this time, the Minority has shot itself in the foot because there is no iota of truth in their claim".
"NPP must focus on solving their internal issues and stop clutching at straws," he stressed.
Commenting on the current generation capacity of the Bui Dam, the Board Chairman stated that it will take three years for the dam to generate to full capacity.
General Mosquito said the dam is currently producing between 90 and 180 megawatts due to the water level.
