Burkina Faso attacks: Beef up security – Ghanaian churches told

Mr Emmanuel Kutin, the Executive Director of the African Centre for Security and Counter-Terrorism, has asked all churches in Ghana to beef up their security following the attack on a Catholic church in Burkina Faso by gunmen which resulted in the death of a priest and five worshippers.

The attack on Sunday took place in Dablo, about 200 kilometres (124 miles) from the capital, Ouagadougou.

Urbain Kabore, a government spokesman for the West African country’s Sahel region, said the gunmen also set fire to a health centre and destroyed all places serving alcohol.

Speaking on Ghana Yensom hosted by Kwabena Prah Jnr (The Don) on Accra 100.5FM on Friday, 17 May 2019, Mr Kutin said churches in Ghana must take a cue from what has happened in Ghana’s northern neighbour.

“It is good the church leaders in Ghana have met the security in Ghana, the churches must take their own security seriously.

“This is the time they must hire security consultants to give them ideas on how to handle their security on the premises of the churches.”

Apart from the churches, he added: “All Ghanaians must be watchful. If any unknown person is lurking around their business areas or homes, they will need to quickly draw the attention of others living around so they forestall any attacks.”
