The displaced are now residing with relatives in the area surviving on few donated relief items, including used clothing and sachet water. Mr Michael Tasiame, South Tongu District Co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) told the GNA that at about 1430 hours on Saturday, February 14, bush fires spread from a distance to the village when most of the adults were away attending a funeral. He said some youths who were in the village at the time battled the fire with fire belts, but hard winds drove the fire beyond the capacity of the group and torched some thatch houses in the village. Personnel of the District Fire Service who were called in could not help for lack of equipment, he said. Mr Kobla Woyome, Member of Parliament for the area, expressed his sympathy with the victims and donated 600 bags of sachet water in addition to some used clothing from other benevolent people to the victims. Dzebetato, Hlortorto and Lakpo-Junction were among six other communities who suffered from bushfires in the district recently. 20 Feb. 09
