THE ACCRA Regional tribunal presided over by His Lordship, Justice P.K Aggrey, sitting as an additional circuit court judge Monday remanded one Kofi Annang to re-appear on 24th of this month for definite hearing.

Kofi Annang, a businessman, who was arrested by the police upon bench warrant ordered by the court, was accused of defrauding one Aminu Alhassan with false pretences under the pretext of securing an Australian visa and bolted with ?53million.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against him but the court however refused to grant him bail, contending that he was likely to run away since he had done it before and the case was accordingly adjourned to February 24, this year.

Briefing the court, the prosecuting officer, Inspector S.B Sarfo, said the complainant is a businessman residing at Akwatia, whilst the accused is also based in Accra.

He said sometime last year, the accused collected an amount of ?53 million in a piece meal from the complainant under the pretext of securing Australian visa for him to enable him travel but later failed to comply with his promise.

Inspector Sarfo said on November 10, last year, the complainant approached the accused to refund the money since he could not fulfil the promise.

He said the accused agreed and gave a promissory note to refund the money within one month from the date of the promissory note but had also failed to do so.

He said the case was however reported to the police and the accused was arrested. In a caution statement, he said the accused admitted the offence.
