A 41-year old businessman, arrested by the police for alleged incest, was on Wednesday, put before a Kumasi Circuit Court.

Desmond Owusu, who is facing additional charges of assault and threat of death, denied the crime.

The court, presided over by Madam Comfort Tasiame, on health grounds, granted him a GHS20,000.00 bail with three sureties.

He was ordered to make his next appearance on March 15.

Police Chief Inspector Timothy Amoako told the court that the victim, a biological daughter of the accused, has been living with the mother since the parents divorced in 2008.

She sat for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in year 2015 but had one of her papers cancelled by the examination body.

The prosecution said this made it necessary for her to re-sit the paper and she sought the assistance of the father to pay for the registration and tuition fee.

Owusu agreed to take care of those fees but on condition that she moved to stay with him at his Kromoase New Site residence, which she readily accepted to do.

Her troubles started a week after she relocated to his place.

Owusu raped her whilst she was asleep and thereafter succeeded to have sex with her on three other different occasions.

The prosecution said the victim got fed up, decided to break her silence and that angered the accused, who threatened to kill her if she dared tell anybody about her traumatic experience.

The next time the accused attempted, she resisted and got battered for refusing to give in.

She fled to the mother’s place, where she informed the uncle and a formal report was made to the Police Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU).
