The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Henry A. K. Wampah has clarified that, Ramona Wampah, wife of the British fugitive drug baron, David McDermott, is his step daughter and not biological daughter as being reported.
McDermott, Britain’s most wanted fugitives was last week arrested in Accra following a three-year manhunt for his connection to a plot to smuggle cocaine worth £71m into the UK.
David McDermott of Ormskirk, Lancashire, was the last man still being hunted by an international operation involving officers from the National Crime Agency and Ghana’s Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).
It had been reported that the 42-year-old who is also suspected of being a member of an organised crime syndicate from Liverpool, was married to the daughter of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Ramona Wampah.
However, in a statement released on Sunday, Dr stated that he received with shock the arrest of David McDermott, who is married to my step daughter, Ramona.

STATEMENT ON THE ARREST OF DAVID MCDERMOTT ISSUED BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE BANK OF GHANA, DR. HENRY A. K. WAMPAH:
I have received news about the arrest of David McDermott, who is married to my step daughter, Ramona, with shock.
David has been known to me as a worker in the mining sector and has been living in the country with Ramona since their marriage some three years ago.
Until I received information about his arrest, I had absolutely no knowledge about David being a fugitive of the British government.
