Reverend Simon Asige, a former Director of Secondary Education at Ghana Education Service (GES), has urged parents and guardians to buy good books for their wards to read.

According to Reverend Asige, it is worrying to see children waste valuable time and resources on pornography at the internet and on social media platforms.

The former Secondary Education Director, who was the guest speaker at the launch of a book titled, “High School Students: Your Guide for Success” in Accra, said, “Let us all help to inculcate the habit of reading in children by buying good books for them and encouraging them to read always”.

Professor Kwesi Yankah, Vice Chancellor of Central University and chairman of the function, said he was alarmed to see young adults indulge in anti-social practices, such as drug abuse, robbery and internet fraud instead of, “using their precious time to search for knowledge and skills which can earn them good jobs and privileges.”

Dr Kofi Krafona, senior lecturer at the University of Cape Coast and consultant in Clinical Psychology, who reviewed the book, urged parents and guardians to equip their wards with good learning resources for better life.

Mrs. Cynthia Bosumtwi-Sam, Director for Basic Education at GES, in a brief statement, cautioned the public against the use of low-quality books and focus on materials of high standards for enhanced education.

Ms. Gertrude Nimako-Boateng, the author, who is also an international trades lawyer and diplomat, said she wrote the book as part of her contributions to quality education delivery to students through reading.

The 178-page book, written in three parts, seeks to equip readers with study skills, test-taking skills, among others with the first executive copy being sold at Gh¢6,500.00.
