Cape Coast, April 20, GNA - The Central Regional office of the Women and Juveniles Unit (WAJU) of the Ghana Police Service has, from January 2004 to March this year, received a total of 1,399 cases of "parental neglect of duty and responsibility". Of the number, 1,031 were reported last year, while 114,136 and 118 complaints were received in January, February and March this year respectively.

Of the number, 1,031 were reported last year, while 114,136 and 118 complaints were received in January, February and March this year respectively. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Comfort Boateng, the Regional Director of WAJU, told the GNA in an interview that while some of the cases of neglect involved both parents, most of them were about fathers who have refused to cater for their children. She said 1,573 parental neglect, defilement, offensive conduct, rape, threatening and abduction cases were filed at the unit last year. 20 April 05
