The leadership of the Conservative Alliance Network (CAN) is to join the Alliance for Accountable Governance on 25th September, 2012, to embark on a demonstration dubbed: “Red Revolution Demo” against the Electoral Commission.

A statement issued in Accra on Wednesday and copied to the Ghana News Agency noted that the leadership of CAN came to this decision after carefully assessing the views of a large section of the society on the creation of the new 45 constituencies by the Electoral Commission.

It said the trade unions, the clergy, civil societies, student groups and many other well meaning organizations have spoken against the creation of the 45 constituency at this time.

“We are pleased that all the organizations and persons recognize the constitutional mandate of the Electoral Commission to create new constituencies,” it said.

However, the statement said as had been widely explained, the period for the creation was not appropriate.

It noted that political parties had a short period to organize a democratic process to elect officers and parliamentary candidates for the new constituencies.

It stated that it does not know why the Commission was bent on creating the new constituencies.

The statement indicated that it was illegal for the Commission to place on its website that Ghana has 275 constituencies when as at now; the country only has 230 constituencies.

“This is presumptuous, immature and disturbing that such a reputable body will be engaging in such illegality close to a crucial election in December,” it added.
