CDD Blasts Kufuor

The Centre for Democratic Development CDD has dismissed President Kufuor?s criticism of surveys on public perceptions on corruption.

At his recent media encounter, President Kufuor dismissed studies, which suggest that public perception of corruption is increasing and called on those who conduct the studies, such as the CDD, to produce evidence.

Addressing a press conference in Accra, the Executive Director of the CDD, Professor Emmanuel Gyimah Boadi said such comments are misplaced because surveys only measure public opinion.

He said it is not the responsibility of research organisations to provide evidence to back people?s opinions.

?Dismissal of perception is a very dangerous thing from the point of view of democratic politics. The ordinary man or woman on the street, knowledgeable or ignorant is still a person with the democratic right to their opinions and whoever puts himself or herself out to be serving them better take those opinions very serious. If not they impoverish their own understanding of what it is that people need or want?, he said.
