The Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) is organizing capacity building workshops for all District Assemblywomen in Western Region.

In addition, a number of selected aspiring Assembly Women in the region will benefit from the capacity building program. In all, CDD-Ghana plans to train a total of 102 people from the workshops.

The workshops will take place in two zones - Takoradi for participants from the western south from October 10 to October 13, 2017, and Sefwi Wiawso for those from the western north from October 17 to 20, 2017.

The workshops, on the theme “Strengthening the Capacities of Assembly Women in the Western Region to be more Functional, Efficient and Productive”, aims to improve the performance of the current District Assembly Women to be more productive in their communities.

It also seeks to train and prepare other potential women to contest for positions in the District Assemblies in the next District Assembly Elections.

CDD-Ghana believes that improved capacity, skills and knowledge to perform the duties imposed by the Constitution and other relevant local government laws will help the Assembly Women to better deliver on their mandate in a more effective and efficient manner. Improved performance of the current Assembly Women will serve as motivation for other women to aspire to become Assembly Women.

The workshops, which are being organized by CDD-Ghana in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, and with support from the French Embassy in Ghana, form part of comprehensive governance program aimed at ensuring equal participation in public life.
