CDD to monitor G8 partnership with government

The Center for Democratic Development (CDD) Ghana would be monitoring and reporting on the implementation of G8 partnership with the Ghana government on Extractive Industry Transparency.

In a statement issued at the G8 Summit held in London, Professor E. Gyimah-Boadi, Executive Director of CDD-Ghana said expectations are extremely high among African populations for extractive sector wealth to be converted into greater prosperity for now and the future.

He said the CDD is fully committed to vigorously monitor and highlight the positive and negative aspects of contract, revenue and budgetary transparency in Ghana’s extractive industry and extensively disseminate its findings and analysis to different segments of the population.

He urged government authorities, and industry players like Tullow to equally show a strong commitment through both policy and legislation to share with civil society and media, crucial information on resource contracts, payments made and received, budgets, expenditures and audits.

He also called for commitment from the government of the United Kingdom and other G8 governments as well as non-governmental organisations to promote the adoption of sound international reporting standards for extractive companies and support to strengthen technical capacities.
