CEPS Officer Before Court

Bright Kwaku Dzamesi, a driver of Customs, Excise and Preventive Service who failed to report after knocking down an MTTU Sergeant on duty down at Motorway, Tema was arraigned before the circuit tribunal last Friday.

He pleaded not guilty to four counts, including careless driving, failure to report an accident, causing road obstruction and failure to adhere to police signal.

He was granted ?20 million bail with one surety to reappear on this Friday, October 26.

The facts as told the tribunal chaired by R.C. Azumah was that last Monday, the accused was driving an Opel Vectra saloon car with registration no. GT 2697S on the motorway, but veered into an unauthorised path and Sergeant B.K. Okoto, who was on duty, asked the accused to go back because it was an unauthorised path, but the accused refused to adhere to the police order and rather engaged him in hot argument.

According to the prosecution, the accused did not stop there but sped off, forcing the Sergeant to jump on to the bonnet of the accused's Saloon car and he dragged the police officer to about 60 meters and in the process he fell and sustained injuries.

The accused managed to escape but was arrested later.
