CEPS' sends off Eastern Region head with pomp

Koforidua, Aug. 19, GNA - The Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) on Friday held a ceremony in honour of its out-going Assistant Commissioner in charge of the Eastern Region, Miss Endurance Moncar. Miss Moncar, who worked for 40 years at CEPS, had her meritorious service rewarded with a solemn pulling-out ceremony held at one of the forecourts of the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council. She arrived at the ceremony attired in official vestments to a salute by a female platoon of CEPS personnel while the local Police band blazed soft martial music.

At the end, she was symbolically pulled-out by able-bodied CEPS officers who tied a tick rope to a service pick-up. As the car made its way slowly out of the grounds, Miss Moncar responded emotionally to the deafening cheers and clapping from well wishers including the Regional Minister, Mr Affram Asiedu. Also attending were the New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, Nana Akwasi Adjei Boateng, Miss Akosua Adu, the Regional Director of Education, Miss Jane Kwapong, the Regional Director of Women, Service Commanders and other heads of decentralized departments. Described by the Commissioner of CEPS, Mr Emmanuel Doku, as one of the finest the service ever had, Miss Moncar joined the then Excise Department as a Clerical Officer and by 2004, attained the rank of Assistant Commissioner.

Highlights of her career included being decorated the best senior Excise officer in 1986 and in 1988 she was the leader of the task force that was charged to re-examine the famous '18 containers' in Tema whose owners had, through mis-description and under declarations, evaded huge sums of taxes due the state. In her farewell address Miss Moncar quoted from Shakespeare's popular tragedy, Macbeth, which partly reads "the entire world a stage and all men merely players" to underscore the transient nature of man and the need for workers to give off their best for the nation while on that metaphorical stage.

Among her final acts in office was galvanizing her workers to exceed the revenue target set for Eastern Regional command this year by 25.6 per cent as of July. The office accrued more than 5.5 million new Ghana cedis as against the target figure of 4.4 new Ghana cedis.
