CHASS is still opposed to protocol admissions

Accra, Dec 11, GNA - The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), says it remains opposed to the practice of protocol admission of students into second cycle institutions.

In a communiqu=E9 at the end of the 45th Annual Conference of CHASS, which was on the theme: "Secondary Education in Ghana beyond 50 years-the ITC factor," held in Tamale, CHASS said the admission requirement for students into Senior High school should be reviewed so that the four core subjects and any other two subjects should total not more than aggregate 30.

The Communiqu=E9 signed by Mr. Bolina Saaka, the National President of CHASS, further asked that Headmasters and Headmistresses, who still had vacancies, be allowed to admit qualified students after the first computerised placement.

CHASS also urged the Ghana Education Service to turn immediate attention to the less endowed schools, especially in the distribution of inputs in order for students to be attracted to those schools. On ICT, it said the training of ICT teachers should be prioritised to adequately equip the schools to ensure the success of the new education reform.

CHASS is also requesting that fees charged by the West African Examination Council for practical work should not be paid to WAEC but be retained in the schools for the running of the practical examination. In addition, the batch registration fees charged by WAEC should be retained in the schools for the procurement of computers and their accessories.

CHASS further asked WAEC to stop posting the WASSCE Results on the Internet since some students might be owing fees to the schools.
