Dr. Dean Roberts Jnr, who claims to be both the United States Trade Representative in Ghana and a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) agent, has brutally assaulted his Ghanaian driver, Mohammed Mumuni without provocation.

Unfortunately, the Nima police who appear very dodgy, have refused to arrest and prosecute him even though a formal complain was lodged with them.

The Nima police were alleged to have told the victims' uncle, Mr. R.A. Mahama that the man, Dean Roberts has links the President, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Patrick Acheampong as well as the National Security and so they could not ?go ahead with the matter." Mumuni and his uncle, Mahama who appeared very disappointed and disorganized when they walked into the Insight offices in Kokomlemle last three weeks, revealed that Mumuni had worked with Dr. Dean Roberts for the past eight years until Monday, February 7, 2005, when the incident happened. Mumuni alleged that Dean Roberts had ?clubbed' him and also ?hit him several times on the head with a stone' which left him with wounds and bruises all over his body.

Narrating his ordeal and the traumatic experience he went through, Mumuni said, "I was asked by Dr. Roberts to send his car, a Honda Prelude Saloon car to a mechanic for repairs on Saturday, February 5, 2005. On Monday, my boss claimed he had received a call from a police officer in Kumasi, informing him that the car had been spotted in Kumasi.

"He therefore told me to take him to the mechanic at Odorna to ascertain the truth or otherwise of my claim." According to Mumuni, prior o these developments, a friend who stays in Asylum Down, a suburb of Accra had parked his car in the compound of Dr. Roberts under his (Mumuni) care which did not go down well with him (Roberts).

"Dr. Roberts therefore threatened to burn the car if it was not removed from the house," Mumuni said. Mumuni further disclosed that on their way to the mechanic at Odorna, they both had agreed to pass through the friend's house and tell him to remove the car from Dr. Robert's house. According to Mumuni, "On our way back from the friend's house, without any provocation, Dr. Roberts picked a stone a mallet and started hitting my head with them." "I became unconscious and I fell down. It took the intervention of onlookers to stop him from attacking me.

"These onlookers assisted me into a waiting taxi and we drove to my house. My younger brother Salifu accompanied me to the Nima Police station to make a report," Mumuni said. He said he was issued with a form to see a medical officer. "I went to the Ridge hospital where one Dr. MCA Lamptey examined me. I later went to the Korle-Bu teaching hospital for further treatment. Mumuni's uncle, Mr. R. A. Mahama, who followed up the case at the police station, claimed that sine the incident took place, the inspector in charge, one chief inspector Apaw refused to send the case to court.

"When the case was first slated for court on 14th April, I went to pick Inspector Apaw, but to my surprise, he said he received a call from the IGP, ordering him to suspend the prosecution of Dean Roberts," he alleged. He insisted the person who called him was the IGP, even though I challenged him on why the call came to him instead of the DSP of the station. After several attempts at getting the case to court failed, I petitioned the IGP who wrote to the Nima District Officer, DSP Tawiah Tabi to prosecute Dr. Roberts and the DSP asked for arbitration, he recounted.

According to Dr. Mahama, Dr. Roberts refused to pay the bill despite his earlier promise to do so. He even refused to attend arranged meetings. He said at a point, Roberts introduced one Ex W.O. Tetteh who claimed he was a national security operative. He (Tetteh) also told the police that Dr. Roberts was a C.I.A agent working with national security, Mr. Mahama revealed. When the Insight went to the Nima Police station, Chief Inspector Apaw confirmed the story and said "we were preparing to send the case to court before he (Tabi) came in. You, see him, he will tell you all."

Later DSP Tabi told The Insight that Inspector Apaw received a call from the IGP, asking him to suspect the case. When Inspector Apaw was asked if he ever received a call from the IGP in the course of the case, he denied ever receiving such a call. He said, "it is not true, the IGP has never called me, never.
