The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has adopted a new strategy to track and arrest the criminals who sneaked into the house of the late Manager of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Mrs Josephine Tandoh Asante, and callously murdered her during nocturnal hours.
The Director General of CID, Commissioner of Police (COP) Maame Tiwa Addo-Danquah, disclosed this to The Chronicle in telephone conversation over the weekend, but did not, however, reveal the exact strategy her outfit was implementing to resolve the murder.
According to her, the police had activated all the resources at its disposal and was treating every lead with confidentiality to get to the bottom of the case.
Interestingly, there are only four days between the birthday of deceased and that of the CID boss.
Mrs Asante was born on the August 15, 1969, whilst COP, Tiwa Addo-Danquah marks her 50th today.
Mrs Josephine Asante, then Marketing and Public Affairs Manager at the Tema Port of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), was, on January 13, 2019, murdered in her Emefs Hillview Estate residence near Afienya in the Greater Accra Region.
In the wake of her murder, the police interrogated a number of persons, both in and outside the country, out of which two, the houseboy and her official driver, were placed in custody for a long time to assist with the investigation.
The police conducted scientific tests, including DNA, fingerprints and footprints, from the accused, but none matched those on police records, but COP Tiwa Addo-Danquah went on that the Homicide Squad was leaving no stone unturned in the leads so far provided.
She urged anyone with any information to assist the Homicide Squad to pass on such to the nearest police station, and gave the assurance to uphold the confidentiality of informants.
Meanwhile, a renowned former criminal investigator has lauded the CID boss’ approach to trigger all resources at her disposal to nab the perpetrator(s).
According to the source, who preferred anonymity, he would be lending the vast knowledge he acquired whilst in active service over the years to the police behind the scenes to solve the murder of the lady
The investigator went on that though the inquisition seems to have run into a cul-de-sac, this was the period for the police to spring a surprise by revisiting statements from all who were interrogated from the onset to identify possible links.
