The Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG) is to introduce a new dual marketing qualification this year.
According to CIMG, students trained under the programme would be offered the opportunity to obtain a degree and a professional qualification concurrently.
Mrs. Shola Safo Doudu, President of CIMG announced this at the 25th CIMG Annual General Meeting in Accra.
The meeting which was on the theme: “Great marketing means great business,” was to enable the CIMG President to present the Institute’s report for 2013 after which members would discuss the document to adopt or reject it.
Mrs. Doudu noted that the introduction of the new programme was as a result of a partnership agreement between the CIMG and the South African Institute of Marketing Management (IMM).
She stated that since the beginning of 2014, CIMG ceased its relationship with CIM, UK due to misunderstanding between the two institutions.
Mrs. Doudu said CIMG tuition centre would not serve as the examination centre for CIM, UK again.
She explained that the new marketing qualification is to serve as a stop-gap measure for training marketing students as the institute develops its own local examinations.
Mrs. Doudu also noted that CIMG is collaborating with other professional bodies in the country to have an omnibus legislation passed by parliament to enable the institute to develop its own courses when approved by the National Accreditation Board.
She said by the agreement between CIMG and IMM, the institute could offer IMM Distance Learning marketing courses up to the Masters level to Ghanaians, adding that the institute owns 60 per cent of the deal whiles IMM owns 40 per cent.
Mrs. Doudu said as a result of the strategic plan put into action by the Governing Council of the CIMG last year and the strengthening of the team, the institute’s consultancy showed an income of GHc91,719 in 2013 as compared with GHc17,655 in 2012.
She said the CIMG has collaborated with the Ghana Advertisers Board to organise a living Standard Measurement Survey for 2013.
She noted that the CIMG Marketing Women of the years have organised themselves into a network that undertakes initiative to develop young people.
Mrs. Doudu said during the Presidential ball on December 7, 2013, 81 new members including six corporate bodies were conducted into membership as against 75 in 2012.
She said the event for the first time recorded a profit which showed an income of GHc75,035 in 2013 as against GHc37,900 in 2012 representing 208.5 per cent increment.
She announced that more payment avenues have been worked out to aid in the collection of dues for the organisation.
