Evangelist Daniel Oppong, the man who created a scene at the Jubilee People's Assembly in Sunyani this year, is in the news again.

The self-styled man of God has stated that the recent deaths of Chief Justice George Kingsley Acquah and the First Vice Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Madam Hawa Yakubu; were punishments from God.

Addressing the press in Accra last week Tuesday, the self-acclaimed head pastor of Kwame Oppong Ministry International said the deaths of the two prominent personalities were caused by God to serve as a deterrent to the country's current crop of leaders.

Claiming that he received the message from God after a week's fasting, the man who said he was beaten by 'macho' men with the support of the police at the People's Assembly early this year, said God had told him the deaths were as a result of corruption that had been on the increase in government circles and the waywardness of some religious leaders.

According to him, the harsh living conditions in Ghana, as God had revealed to him was the result of frequent church services organised by some pastors who detained people unnecessarily at church services at the expense of work, thinking God would provide for them.

He stated that God could be worshiped everywhere, even at the workplace.

Referring to embezzlement of state funds by some government officials, he warned those responsible to stop such fraudulent acts.

"Atrocities meted out to people by the former administration, which destabilised the nation, should not be used to criticise them. If the current administration uses it in defending its cause, its situation would be worse than before."

At the last Peoples Assembly held this year, Evangelist Daniel Oppong said God had sent him to caution President John Agyekum Kufuor and his government not to embezzle state funds.

After he had made the disclosure, he said the police and some unknown 'macho' men assaulted him and seized his Bible, as he was leaving the assembly hall.

"The Bible signifies God and if it is not returned those involved would die," he warned.

Evangelist Oppong accused other pastors of deceitfully using God's Word to make money.

He said God was saddened by such dishonest attitude and called on such persons to repent and save themselves from His wrath.
