CJ receives legal library software

Accra, Jan. 26, GNA - The Association of Bankers, Ghana, on Thursday presented Legal Library Software valued at 130 million cedis to the Commercial Court Unit of the Judicial Service. The software, which has products including law reports from 1959 to date, Executive Instruments, the Constitution and law journals would assist judges in their research work.

Mr Albert K. Essien, President of the Association, said the presentation followed a discussion held between the Association and the Chief Justice on how they could facilitate the work of the Commercial Courts.

He stressed the need to support the Commercial Courts with equipment in order for them to dispense justice effectively, efficiently and fairly to all.

"We believe that the Commercial Court could be active if it is given the necessary facilities to perform within its purview so that people can have confidence in the courts."

Mr Essien said the Association had been providing funds for the training of judges and promised to do more in other areas in the courts.

Mr Justice George Kingsley Acquah, Chief Justice, who received the software, expressed his gratitude to the Association for responding to their needs.

Chief Justice Acquah said the Commercial Court was taking steps to improve its work adding: "It is my vision to see the Commercial Court expand by trying investment crime and fraud expeditiously and effectively."

He said the donation would not only assist the court's library but also help judges to conduct researches and deliver excellent judgments. "With this software judges can now hook unto judgments within and outside the country thereby confronting some of the challenges facing them in their work."

The Commercial Court established on March 4, 2005 is aimed at offering speedy, effective and efficient delivery of justice in commercial disputes thereby promoting investment, trade, commerce and other economic activities.
