CJA's Demand for Public Hearing on PSC Tema Shipyard

Wed, 4 Nov 2009 Source: --

Dear Honourable Mike Hammah,

A REMINDER THE STATE OF AFFAIRS AT PSC TEMA SHIPYARD LTD

We wrote to you on 31 August 2009 regarding the way in which the majority shareholders of PSC Tema Shipyard Ltd are flouting the provisions of the Joint Venture agreement with the Government of Ghana and are running down the company for their exclusive benefit.

We note that you have written to the Insight newspaper, stating that you have appointed a committee to enquire into the Company. We are however concerned that until you wrote to the Insight about the issue, the public was not aware of the establishment of the Committee or who its members are.

We would like to inform you that since our meeting, we have received further credible information indicating that certain high profile politicians belonging to both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been or are being influenced by officials of the Company to prevent any genuine consideration of the matters that we raised at our press conference. This is a matter of grave concern to us. Please find enclosed a copy of a transcript of an interview of the Chief Financial Officer conducted by the current external auditors of PSC Tema Shipyard Ltd.

We urge you to establish a public enquiry into the affairs of PSC Tema Shipyard Ltd. In making this request we wish to remind you of the NDC’s manifesto on transparency and accountable government.

While awaiting a response from you, we assure you of our commitment to wage a campaign until the truth about this strategic national asset is laid bare. Yours truly

Kwasi Adu Convener (CJA)
