The National Coordinator of the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO), Albert Arhin, has debunked media reports quoting him as saying that the Electoral Commission is not ready for the November 7, elections.
There were reports suggesting that CODEO has expressed worries about the readiness of the EC ahead of the November polls.
But speaking to 3FM News, Albert Arhin said that the reports misrepresented CODEO’s stance.
“It was somebody who misrepresented it, I am sure the time the guy was talking he wasn’t in the room; the guy misquoted or misrepresented what was actually happening in the room,” he opined.
Touching on the limited registration exercise scheduled for April 28, 2016, he explained that the one week timeline given by the EC for the exercise should be enough when public education is actively done to ensure full participation by all who are eligible.
“Registration of this nature takes less than seven days, and this is not the first time they are using seven days to do that work,” he stressed.
“So if public education goes on very well I don’t see why seven days should not be used in making this exercise a success”.
