CPP Asks Akufo-Addo to Address Policy Inconsistencies

Ladies and Gentlemen

To be the Leader of our great country is a serious matter indeed, one that calls for a principled individual, a person of substance with consistency in policy position. A policy position of the challengers to this important and august position is an election issue that warrants examination by all Ghanaians.

From his address at KNUST to his speech at AGI, at the IEA and the UDS in Tamale, at the TUC a few days ago and at various points during his campaign , the Presidential Candidate of the NPP , Nana Akuffo Addo has offered various positions on the challenges facing our country. We believe that these positions are conflicting positions with many inconsistencies that Nana Akuffo Addo needs to address urgently.

“The world is looking up to a successful black state and with the NPP, Ghana will be what the world is looking up to. “We will improve our own lot by ensuring effective production and international marketing of our commodities …….” - Nana Akuffo-Addo addressing party supporters in London “Africa will continue to be the focus of Ghana's foreign policy direction because the continent's collective interests are of historical and strategic importance to the country's own development…”Ghana holds on to, and believes in the early hopes of progressive, prosperous and self-reliant Africa with the capacity to project a positive image of the African on the world stage.” - Nana Akuffo-Addo, at Ho, opening a two-day workshop on "Ghana's Foreign Policy and Africa's Development Agenda".

I envisage our economy “will grow at about 10% per year, focus on value-addition to raw materials, manufacturing and ensure that the entire machinery of government is geared towards assisting Ghanaians trying to do business. - Nana Akuffo-Addo at the IEA

“I pledged my party to the structural transformation of our economy by: - focusing on the production of Value added goods and services rather than primary products - pursuing a clear policy of Ghanaian Economic Empowerment that will encourage the accumulation and investment of Ghanaian capital, locally and from the Diaspora, and making more Ghanaians winners in the Global economy” - Nana Akuffo-Addo at the TUC

“We must end the outrages of nearly a quarter-of-a-million children being disgorged onto our streets by our school system every year without either the skills for work or a chance to continue their education” - Nana Akuffo-Addo at the TUC

“my government plans to make significant investments in heavy industries that will serve as the foundation of our industries. Amongst these are energy, aluminium and limestone”- Nana Akuffo-Addo at the TUC

“I pledge my government to the construction of 50 thousand housing units per year at 20 thousand Ghana cedis per unit. Half of these will be rented out and half will be sold. In addition to government construction, my government will work with private constructors to accelerate the construction of private housing at more reasonable prices” - Nana Akuffo-Addo at the TUC

“…even as we create these jobs of today and tomorrow, we must protect our environment for generations yet unborn. My government will aggressively protect our environment from degradation and contamination and improve it, by re-afforestation, the cleaning of water bodies the modernisation of our laws and their enforcement” - Nana Akuffo-Addo at the TUC

“In healthcare, we introduced the National Health Insurance Scheme in 2003 over the objections of the Opposition and to date; 11.3 million Ghanaians have registered for it .Cash and carry is mercifully being buried in Ghana forever”. Nana Akuffo-Addo at the TUC

Ghanaians are now asking Hon Nana Akuffo Addo to address inconsistencies in his position and pronouncements, as these statements are inconsistent with his position on a number of national issues – The sale of ADB, The sale of GT, the continuing presence within his team and entourage of Alhaji Moctar Bamba dismissed from the current President’s Office for alleged fraud. His continuing silence on arsenic poisoning of farm lands in mining areas by AngloGold. The fact that Cash and Carry has not ended under the NHIS, because it is largely a district based system and as many people are now finding out if you have an accident away from your district then “Cash and Carry” is very much alive.

We would respectfully say to Nana Akuffo Addo that if you are concerned about the quarter-of-a-million of our youngsters who are thrown out of the education system whilst still in their early teens, then why support the current education system and BECE.

Nana, you cannot keep promising creation of jobs from Ghanaians, by Ghanaians and for Ghanaians, when your actions betray a different position geared towards foreign enterprises running our economy.

Nana Akuffo Addo must tell Ghanaians that he has found the partners to deliver 50,000 affordable houses for rent and sale or tell Ghanaians boldly that the state will have to deliver all the units.

The questions many are also asking is “Does Nana Akuffo Addo still believe in “Indigenous Capitalism”?

The CPP is carefully monitoring the utterances of our opponents and will expose blatant inconsistencies in their words against their deeds.
