The Convention People’s Party yesterday presented food items and assorted drinks to the National Chief Imam, Dr. Sheik Usman Nuhu Sharubutu, for the celebration of this year’s Ramadan.

The items, including 10 bags of rice and five crates of minerals, some cooking oil, frozen chicken and a sheep were presented by the party’s National Chairman, Ladi Nylander together with the 2008 presidential candidate, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, and some leading members of the party including the Ayawaso East Women’s Organiser, Hajia Adisa Issah. The party also presented a cash amount of GH¢500 to the Chief Imam.

Presenting the items, Dr. Nduom said the donation had a special meaning and that to request the Chief Imam to pray to Allah to ensure that the CPP wins power to implement its policies and programmes that will improve the well-being of Ghanaians.

He said the gesture was important, given the long-standing relationship that had existed between the CPP and the Chief Imam. According to Dr. Nduom, the CPP “was getting tired” with the way the country was being managed. “CPP is getting a little bit tired. And we believe that we can do better for the country,” he said. It was along this line that 2008 CPP flag bearer requested the Chief Imam to offer special prayers for the CPP to enable the party win power and “do something better for Ghana.” For his part, Mr. Ladi Nylander contended that the CPP ‘feels at home anytime it visits the Chief Imam.’ He also seized the opportunity to ask the Chief Imam to pray for him in his bid to contest again the chairmanship position of the party. “When I first decided to contest I came here and you (Chief Imam) prayed for me and I won, and I know you will do same as I am contesting to be re-elected as the Chairman of the CPP,” Mr. Nylander requested.

The Chief Imam expressed his profound appreciation and assured Dr. Nduom and Mr. Nylander that whatever prayer requests they have made during the period of Ramadan would be answered by Allah, quoting from the Quran that Allah says we should ask and He will do it for us.”

He prayed for the CPP, Dr. Nduom and Mr. Nylander, asking for Allah’s peace and protection for them. Later the CPP delegation also made a similar donation to the Imam of Nima.
